NFC & EMV Chip Card Payments Made Easy

Designed to meet the 2015 Liability Shift Requirements and eliminate Friendly Fraud Chargebacks, Heartland Restaurant's ability to process EMV Chip Cards is built-in, eliminating the need for 3rd Party EMV Chip Card Processing Systems and their expensive ongoing costs.

Heartland Restaurant is

Out of Scope

Most POS Systems have Card-Holder Data "In Scope" Putting your Business at Risks from Memory Scrapers. Using Tokenization Heartland Restaurant does not Process, Transmit, or Store Card-Holder Data. With Heartland Restaurant Say Goodbye to the Risks and Liability of a Data Breach

 In Scope

Memory Scraper Risks with Card-Holder Data

Traditional pos systems designed decades ago have card holder data “In Scope”. Memory scrapers targeted specifically for traditional pos systems capture card holder data from ram
memory as it’s being transmitted to the processor. The best security money can buy fails to prevent data breaches.

 Out of Scope

No Card-Holder Data with Tokenization

Using Tokenization Heartland Restaurant does not Process, Transmit or Store Card Holder Data, making it “Out of Scope”. Tokens are sent to a Payment Gateway. Now you can enjoy worry-free PCI Compliance. And if you change processors enjoy more savings due to no device re-encryption being necessary.

TIP: Never Buy a POS System Vulnerable to Memory Scraping Malware

Pete's Bar Implements Heartland Restaurant and can now start Chip Card Bar Tabs to Ensure Funds are Available while Eliminating Friendly Fraud Chargebacks

All is good with starting tabs with chip cards and the ability for Heartland Processing to preauthorize in making sure funds are available while also protecting our business from fraudulent chargebacks. The chip readers are especially helpful where more and more banks are issuing chip cards that will decline when trying to run it as a swiped transaction instead of a chip transaction. Banks are saying chip cards are the latest security measures and expect them to be used as chip transactions.

Built-In EMV Chip Card Processing

Heartland Restaurant POS uses payment terminals with a built-in pin pad. They offer EMV, NFC/contactless, and MSR and are PCI PTS 3.1, MasterCard PayPass, Visa payWave, American Express ExpressPay, and Discover DPAS certified. Any Heartland Restaurant POS tablet, whether Ethernet or Wi-Fi connected, can initiate and perform transactions on any payment terminal.

Built-In QR Code Contactless Payments

Scan to Pay

The free built-in Scan to Pay feature can be enabled allowing contactless payments for guests to pay by scanning the QR Code on the bottom of their ticket.

Upon completion of payment by ApplePay or Credit Card, the ticket is automatically marked paid in the POS app and the staff assigned to the ticket can optionally be immediately notified by SMS.

Payment Gateway

Using Tokenization technology, Heartland Restaurant can process directly to the Credit Card Processor or to a Payment Gateway.

There are advantages of using a Payment Gateway

Should your Credit Card Processor or Internet Service Provider (ISP) go down, card readers encrypted to the Payment Gateway allow for spooled transactions to be stored locally.  When service is restored, tokens are sent to the Payment Gateway to be authorized as card present transactions.

Processing an EMV payment to a ticket and later adding more items to the ticket

Deleting a payment from a ticket and using the Token of File to re-apply the payment

Manager moving a token on file from one ticket to the correct ticket

Manager refunding full or partial ticket using the token on file

One merchant account setup and batch for in store and online orders

Swapping out EMV devices is simplified due to Payment Gateway encryption

One hosted batch regardless of the number of EMV devices

Payments to a House Account with House Account Balances

Changing Credit Card processors is a simplified process when devices are encrypted to a Payment Gateway instead of a Credit Card Processor, saving merchants time and money.

Wave your Smartphone or Smartwatch to pay with NFC technology!

NFC technology works with mobile wallets such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay.

Near field communication (NFC), is a form of contactless communication between devices like smartphones and smartwatches using Apple Pay, Android Pay. Heartland Restaurant POS, using the integrated payment terminals, allows a user to pay for their purchases using their smartphone or smartwatch. Compared to EMV, NFC transactions are much faster and provide the same level of chargeback protection.

2015 Liability Shift

EMV Chip Card technology protects you from Friendly Fraud Chargebacks

In October 2015, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express mandated liability shifts for fraudulent transactions. This means that merchants using legacy magnetic stripe readers for accepting credit cards carry the entire burden for merchant chargebacks if a card with a chip is swiped.

While EMV payment terminals are typically more expensive to purchase than magnetic stripe readers, it’s important to weigh the upfront cost against the potential long term cost of paying for customer initiated chargebacks. Many consumers will prefer using merchants capable of processing EMV transactions because EMV advertises an enhanced level of payment security.

The table number is embedded into the QR Code.

  1. Guest opens their camera and scans the QR Code
  2. Guest places their order and pays
  3. Guest waits for their food to arrive at their table

Speed Up the Lines with the Guest Facing Customer Display App

Paying with EMV Chip Devices or Swiped Cards, the Guest Display App works in tandem with the POS App, showing guests a customer friendly version of what their cashier is doing. When a guest orders a meal, the Customer Display will show each item ordered with any additions or changes requested. The Guest Display also shows a running subtotal of the meal’s cost.

One of the biggest benefits to the Customer Display is an increase in order accuracy. Customers see their order as it is added into the system and can make changes if any items are incorrect before the order is sent to the kitchen.

Once the order is complete, guests interact directly with the Customer Display to select from suggested tip amounts and sign on the iPad for Signature Capture. Your guest then has the option of choosing to email, print or decline a receipt.
